Edvard Munch: 1863-1944 Details
Review “As Edvard Munch: 1863-1944 illustrates, we’ve come to fill our days with the concept of Edvard Munch that he wanted us to have—a form of manipulation, perhaps, but also an extraordinarily early recognition of the dark corner that the course of modern existence was headed for….the writers of this book never take the easy shots. Instead, they see Munch as a working artist taking the ides of his time as well as the circumstances of his life to create a compelling whole, a continuum between artist and art, that we still find fascinating…” ~BigThink Read more About the Author Jon-Ove Steihaug is senior curator and acting head of exhibitions and collections at the Munch Museum, Oslo. Reviews
an excellent and thought provoking compilation of writings and essays about Munch, his oeuvre, his intentions and personal writings about his art and life philosophy and how it all affected his works, etc. Many large, beautiful color photos of his work, along with close-ups and a timeline wherein you can see how the events of his life affected his works; the themes he revisited and 'exorcised' throughout his difficult life. The size of the book is perfect and the format compliments Munch's unique mastery of his elements and ability to convey mood through the medium.
