Edvard Munch(with 79 illustrations, including 6 in color) Details
Excellent mid-20th century catalog on Munch, produced in connection with MOMA's 1950 Munch retrospective -- only 4 years after the artist's death There is a very nice balance of text and image here with 79 illustrations, 6 on color plates accompanied by Frederick Deknatel's 50 page essay. Deknatel's prose is trenchant and readable, grounding Munch's work in both biography and in aesthetic history. Hardback bound in yellow and black paper with a matching yellow and black dustcover; End Notes, Catalog, and a 5 page Bibliography. The quality of image in this book is really quite good for the time, with the blacks showing particularly well on the toothy buff stock. Read more
